What is Epoxy Undercoat with Hardener – EF20?
Epoxy undercoat (EF20) is a two-component system based on epoxy resin and a polyamine hardener. It acts as an intermediate layer between the primer and the final coating. This product has excellent adhesion to both the primer and the epoxy topcoat, levels the surface, and enhances the mechanical resistance of the flooring. Additionally, this undercoat helps identify and fix surface imperfections before applying the final layer, ensuring the quality and durability of the project.
How to Use Epoxy Undercoat with Hardener – EF20?
Pre-Application Checks & Recommendations
- The undercoat can be applied 24 hours after the primer layer has dried.
- If there is dust or contamination on the primer layer, clean the surface before application.
Application Method for Epoxy Undercoat EF20
Required Materials:
- Epoxy undercoat with hardener EF20
- Roller, brush, or spray gun
- Electric mixer
- Protective gloves and mask
- Moisture measuring equipment
- Trowel or spatula
Steps for Applying Epoxy Undercoat with Hardener – EF20
- Before adding the hardener, thoroughly mix the undercoat for 3 minutes using an electric drill (ensure mixing from the bottom of the container).
- After adding the hardener (following the recommended mixing ratio), stir the mixture for another 3 minutes using a clean mixer.
- Allow the mixed undercoat and hardener to rest for 1 to 2 minutes before application.
- Since the undercoat is used to level the surface and fill voids, special fillers are added for this purpose.
- Note: Settling of these fillers is natural, so they must be thoroughly mixed with an epoxy drill mixer before adding the hardener.
- After drying, the undercoat should have a slightly rough (sanded) texture to ensure proper adhesion to the topcoat.
- Apply the mixed undercoat and hardener using a metal trowel No. 2 over the primer layer.
Important Notes:
- Do not use the hardener for primer or topcoat in place of the undercoat hardener.
- Even a 10-gram difference in the hardener ratio can negatively affect the final result. Follow the exact mixing ratios provided in the accompanying table.
- Always use an industrial-grade scale to precisely measure and weigh the hardener.
- The mixture must be applied within 20 to 30 minutes after blending the resin and hardener. After this time, the material becomes difficult to work with, leaving trowel marks.
- Any issues or surface defects after undercoat application must be fixed before proceeding to ensure a perfectly smooth and even surface.
