What is Anti-Static Epoxy Flooring?
Anti-static epoxy flooring, based on bisphenol epoxy resin and modified polyamine hardener, is one of the flooring solutions used in buildings. It prevents static electricity and drains the electric charge from the environment. Due to its seamless surface, it also prevents bacterial growth, making it inherently antibacterial. In environments with electronic equipment or places storing flammable materials, static electricity can cause sparks, explosions, fires, and irreversible damage if not discharged. Therefore, it is essential to use flooring with anti-static properties. Anti-static flooring is applied in four layers, incorporating copper wiring. To ensure anti-static electrical resistance, the electrical resistance of the epoxy surface should be tested at each stage. This test involves placing probes at specific points, applying a potential difference, and measuring the electric current between the probes. Mandana Polymer Engineering Company, a knowledge-based and academic company, has achieved technical expertise in producing various polymer products after years of research. Anti-static polymer flooring is manufactured and supplied in industrial, commercial, and residential sectors at Mandana Polymer Industrial Complex. Alongside production, Mandana Polymer also offers expert consultation and supervision services for epoxy flooring installation.
How to Apply Anti-Static Epoxy Flooring
Step 1: Pre-Application Recommendations
The floor should be thoroughly cleaned and free of water and moisture. If the surface is oily, wash it with a degreasing solution before applying the flooring. The tools and containers used for mixing should be clean and free of contaminants. Materials should be placed at the project site one day before application.
Step 2: Ensuring the Right Temperature for Application
Before application, measure the surface and material temperature using a digital thermometer. The surface temperature during application should be between 20 to 30 degrees Celsius. If not, contact Mandana Polymer’s technical unit. Surface temperature should be measured with a laser thermometer as room temperature may vary significantly.
Step 3: Preparation
Application of anti-static topcoat is possible on surfaces previously treated with EF10 primer, EF20 undercoat, and anti-static primer. Epoxy application must be done following appropriate time intervals between layers.
How to Apply Anti-Static Epoxy Flooring
Steps for Applying Anti-Static Epoxy Flooring
- Floor leveling and preparation using the flooring or grinding method while controlling relevant factors (according to guidelines)
- Chemical washing of oily surfaces with OP30 degreasing solution
- Applying primer with EF10 hardener according to primer application instructions to increase adhesion to concrete, remove dust, and neutralize concrete fumes
- Filling voids: Repair damaged and cracked structures using a special sealant
- Applying undercoat with EF20 hardener according to undercoat instructions
- Sanding and correcting defects in the undercoat layer
- Installing copper wiring
After the undercoat has dried, copper strips must be installed in a network-like grid. The distance between the copper strips should be between 1 to 4 meters, with the last copper strip 15 cm away from the wall. Copper strips should also be placed at room corners for grounding. These strips connect the flooring to the building’s earthing system.
Applying Anti-Static Primer
After installing the copper network, apply the anti-static primer. This primer is electrically conductive and can dissipate static electricity.
Applying Epoxy Anti-Static Topcoat with Hardener
Before adding the hardener to the topcoat, stir the topcoat for 2 minutes steadily. After adding the hardener, mix the topcoat and hardener for 3 minutes, and let it rest for 1 to 5 minutes before application.
Note: Any deviation of 10 grams in the hardener amount will affect the result. Accurately weigh the hardener using a scale designed for industrial measurements. Do not mix excess topcoat and hardener.
