What is Roof Waterproofing?
Roofs are the largest and most exposed parts of buildings, directly subjected to weather conditions such as rain, snow, and sunlight. Roof waterproofing acts as a barrier to protect the building from water penetration. Therefore, applying the best waterproofing material to the roof helps preserve the longevity and performance of the structure and prevents water and moisture infiltration caused by rain and snow. Waterproofing membranes, especially in liquid form, penetrate cracks and gaps on the roof surface, filling all the pores and preventing water and moisture from entering the building. This system ensures the building is protected by a durable solution that does not leak, does not promote mold or fungus growth, and maintains its effectiveness over time. These waterproofing materials are available in different colors and provide a beautiful and aesthetic appearance. The most commonly used color for roof waterproofing is gray.
Another major advantage of * roof waterproofing* is that it can be applied to all types of surfaces, including over existing materials like bitumen (isogam) or tar roofing. For high-traffic areas such as rooftops and balconies, the use of a special reinforcement mesh called “Manator (SWP2)” is recommended, though it is not mandatory.
*IsoPoul WP10 Roof Waterproofing* has emerged in the past decade as the best and most reliable replacement for isogam. It is the only polymer-based waterproofing membrane in Iran that meets the country’s factory standards and has an operational license for construction projects. IsoPoul WP10 is a one-component liquid material, which can be easily applied with a brush, roller, or spray gun to the roof surfaces and walls. It provides high resistance to water pressure, strong adhesion to various surfaces, and prevents peeling or bubbling. Additionally, IsoPoul WP10 is highly resistant to UV radiation, abrasions, and impacts, offering long-term protection against water and moisture on concrete and cement surfaces.
Features of IsoPoul WP10 Roof Waterproofing
-Easy Application: IsoPoul WP10 is a one-component liquid that can be easily applied using a brush, roller, or spray gun on roofs and walls.
– High Water Pressure Resistance: The membrane offers excellent resistance to water pressure, preventing peeling or bubbling.
– Excellent Adhesion: IsoPoul WP10 adheres strongly to a variety of surfaces, including concrete, cement, and even existing waterproofing layers such as isogam, ensuring no water penetration.
– UV Resistance: IsoPoul WP10 is highly resistant to ultraviolet rays, preventing fading and degradation over time.
– Durability: This waterproofing membrane is extremely durable, resistant to abrasion and impact, and ideal for high-traffic areas like commercial and residential roofs.
How to Apply IsoPoul Roof Waterproofing WP10
- Surface Preparation:
– The surface should be clean and free from dirt, grease, and debris. It may require washing or even sanding if necessary.
– Any loose, unstable, or rough surfaces should be repaired before applying the waterproofing layer.
- Pre-Application Conditions:
– The surface must be dry, clean, and free of dust or dirt.
– The ideal temperature for application is between 15–25°C. Waterproofing should not be applied in temperatures lower than 15°C or during rainy days.
– Make sure the surface is completely dry before starting.
- Materials and Tools Required:
-Materials: IsoPoul Primer WP30, IsoPoul WP10 waterproofing membrane, Manator mesh (optional), WP80, WP90, P100, or P40 as needed.
-Tools: Trowel, roller, paintbrush, broom, mixer, gloves, and containers for mixing the materials.
- Waterproofing Application:
-Apply a coat of IsoPoul Primer WP30 uniformly across the surface using a roller. The recommended coverage for the primer is about 100 grams per square meter. Allow it to dry for approximately 3 hours at 25°C.
-Repair any cracks or gaps between tiles with WP80 undercoat material or P40 sealant as per the instructions.
-Apply the first coat of IsoPoul WP10 waterproofing membrane with a roller and allow it to dry for 3 hours.
-Repeat the application of IsoPoul WP10 for a total of 2 or 3 layers, allowing sufficient drying time between each layer.
Important Points for Roof Waterproofing Application
Consumption Rates: The consumption of the primer is approximately 100 grams per square meter. For IsoPoul WP10 waterproofing, the average consumption per layer is around 500 grams to 1 kilogram per square meter, depending on the roof’s usage. One kilogram of the waterproofing material typically covers 1–2 square meters.
Drying Time: Each layer of the waterproofing material requires about 3–4 hours to dry at 25°C. Final drying takes about 48 hours. In colder temperatures, drying times will be longer.
Surfaces Suitable for Application: IsoPoul WP10 can be applied to various surfaces, including concrete, cement, mosaic, tile, asphalt, galvanized iron, and plastered surfaces.
Storage and Safety Precautions
Storage: IsoPoul WP10 should be stored in a dry place, away from direct sunlight, water, and rain. It should be kept at temperatures above 5°C and should not be allowed to freeze.
Safety: Although IsoPoul WP10 is non-toxic, it is advisable to use gloves, goggles, and protective clothing during application. In case of skin or eye contact, rinse with cold water.
Flammability: IsoPoul WP10 is non-flammable.
